Sealey SM5.v3 Horizontal Bandsaw
Overview
The Sealey SM5.v3 is a bandsaw for metal cutting which can be used in either horizontal or vertical position. The main intended use of the SM5.v3 is to cut metal rod or bar to size. Vertical position is much the same as a standard bandsaw where you control the cut by manually feeding material to the machine. In horizontal position, the material is clamped in place and the saw is gently lowered into position to start cutting, then gravity will do the rest.
Switching between the two positions is simple, a support plate is adjusted which fixes the machine in vertical position, the lower blade guard is removed and a table and support are attached in it's place. The manual has an illustrated guide for switching cutting positions.
The bandsaw has three speeds which are set by changing the pulley gearing of the belt drive. The settings are as follows:
| Material | Motor Pulley | Saw Pulley | Blade Speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tool, stainless or alloy steel, bearing bronze | Small | Large | 0.3m/sec |
| Low to medium carbon steel | Medium | Medium | 0.5m/sec |
| Aluminium, copper, brass | Large | Small | 0.8m/sec |
